Interventions

 

Here at Continu Plus Academy, we offer an extensive range of interventions that include a universal intervention offer for all students, targeted support sessions matched to the needs of students and bespoke 1:1 sessions that are personalised for each student, their situation and to deliver the help that they need to make progress.

Each day, we invest in the cultural capital of our students, by developing their knowledge and understanding of current affairs, daily. Students are greeted each morning by their teachers and whilst enjoying the breakfast available to them, they can also choose to read daily tablet and broadsheet newspapers, with the opportunity to engage in discussions with teachers. For staff, this morning routine is an opportunity to enhance literacy, model good social interactions to the students whilst informing them about current affairs.

Each Friday, our students will have an afternoon of enrichment activities, with choices that include: bowling, visiting a coffee shop, sports and visiting local shops. These activities help to provide an opportunity for our students to become well-rounded individuals who can interact appropriately in a variety of social situations with confidence.

Each term, our students also experience exciting rewards trips, where they can choose from an activity, such as a Team Sport, followed by a meal out, or a theme park. On these trips we are not only making life-long memories for our students but also investing in their futures by developing social interaction skills and confidence.

Academic Interventions:

Our students may need additional support to make good progress. We offer a range of these.

For example, Catch UP Literacy is a structured one-to-one literacy intervention for struggling readers. It teaches pupils to blend phonemes (combine letter

sounds into words), segment phonemes (separate words into letter sounds), and memorise particular words so they can be understood without needing to use phonics strategies to decode them.

Our Teachers and Learning Coaches may also work 1:1 with students during lessons and at other times, to provide an enhanced level of support depending upon the individual needs of learners.
